Let's Talk

Words That Keep Me Motivated

There are days when you feel like you are on top of the world, like you are in that scene in the movies where the girl takes off her glasses and lets down her hair and the cute boy suddenly sees how beautiful she is. And then there are the other days… The days where nothing seems to go right. The days when you start picking at the little problems until you have created a dark hole and you can't seem to stop spiraling down it. The days where all you want to do is close the blinds, hide under your covers with a tub of Ben and Jerry's ice cream and binge watch 8 hours of Vampire Diaries.

I have been having those days lately.

Now don't get me wrong. Things have been going great in my life. Between starting up my marketing business and being accepted by law school, I have been living the dream! But with the dream comes stress and with stress comes a bad day. No one tells you that becoming an adult means no more sleep…. I like sleep... I NEED sleep. So after the lack sleep and shortage of hours in my day have caused a mental breakdown… or 10… I decided that what I really needed was a motivation cheat sheet. Something I can stick on my door or by my bathroom mirror and read every day. Sooooo here are the things that inspire me!

1. Your only limit is your mind!

For me, this is one of the most important things to remember. It can be so easy to fall into a slump and think that you aren't successful enough, experienced enough, or just plain good enough. But if you push past the thoughts you open yourself up to the possibility of becoming exactly what you want to be. It just takes some time.

2. Stay patient and trust your journey!

I am extremely impatient. I somehow always think that I need to do everything and have everything right now. I think it comes from my insane OCD. But sometimes its important to remember that good things take time. You have to look at your life as a big picture. We spend 12 years in school and grow grade by grade. Being an adult is nothing different so give it some time. After all, Rome wasn't built in a day!

3. Today you are you, that is truer than true. There is no one alive that is youer than you! -Dr. Seuss.

This has been my secret inspiration for as long as I can remember. It is so simple but it always helps me snap out of a bad mood. I am awful when it comes to comparing myself to other people. Being in the Instagram business I catch myself scrolling through the pages of other bloggers and just wishing that I had their sense of style, or their editing skills, or their traveling opportunities. It becomes so easy to feel less than you are. That's when I think it's important to remember that you don't know these people. You don't know their insecurities and who they are behind the pictures. How can you possibly sit there and compare yourself to someone in picture, it's a picture. You are a real person, a unique person. Just be yourself and stop worrying so much about what others might think.

4. If you have a goal, write it down. If you do not write it down, you do not have a goal - you have a wish!

I write at least 10 to do lists every day. I know that sounds a bit over the top but when I start to get overwhelmed by life it is extremely calming to have everything written on paper and be able to cross things off one at a time. Even writing this little blog right now is making me feel better, making my brain feel less like a computer with a million open tabs. So write down all the things you want to accomplish this week, this month, or even this year. And slowly, work until you can cross them off. Suddenly life won't be so overwhelming anymore.

5. No matter how you feel, get up, dress up, show up, and never give up!

This is my final inspiration day in and day out. My mom used to tell me that everything can be fixed if you just get up and try. That is advice I truly believe in. After I have thrown myself a pity party and listened to soppy songs from the 90s, I snap myself out of it simply by getting dressed. You'd be surprised how much putting on a pair of pants can change your mood. So no matter how gloom and doom something may seem in the moment, just remember to dust yourself off and try it again.
